Rube Goldberg Machine

A Rube Goldberg machine is an extremely complex apparatus that performs a very simple, very easy task in an indirect and convoluted way. The most horrible examples of his machines have an anticipation factor, as the machine makes slow but steady progress toward its goal. The term also applies as a classification for a generally over-complicated apparatus or software. The corresponding term in the United Kingdom is "Heath Robinson" (machine or contraption), after the British cartoonist with a similar focus on odd machinery. The term "Rube Goldberg machine" first appeared in Webster's Third New International Dictionary with the definition "accomplishing by extremely complex roundabout means what actually or seemingly could be done simply." Rube Goldberg's inventions are a unique commentary on life's complexities. They provide a humorous diversion into the absurd that lampoons the wonders of technology. These satires of man's ingenuity resonate in modern life for those seeking simplicity in the midst of a technology revolution. Goldberg's machines can also be seen as a physical representation of the pataphysical, carrying a simple idea to a nonsensical, ornamented extreme.

It was a Summer full of Love!

On behalf of myself, our entire staff at Rewind the Rhythm and our crew at Love 97FM we thank you for making the Summer of Love a smashing success!

Congratulations to our winners circle, Cheryl Carey, Tamara Rolle,Yvette Braynen and Rosa Stamp. All of our winners were quite enthusiastic when Jay made the phone call to tell them "You are a Summer of Love winner!"

Jim Wilson, our Executive Producer and Webmaster, reminds you to sign up for our newsletter as that will automatically enter you in any of our future contests. Our newsletter members along with calls to the Rhythm Line are all put in to our random drawings for each of our contests unless otherwise specified.

Again, thanks for making this truly a Summer of Love and we look forward to more exciting things and giveaways in the very near future.

Growing up in Philadelphia during the formative years of Top 40 radio, it was difficult not to have the showbiz bugbite Jay Michaels.

"Philly" was a hotspot of entertainers and record producers: In fact, in Jay's neighborhood alone he was surrounded by hitmakers. Jay, who loved music and played drums, would often jam with kids in the neighborhood.

Who knew that many of them would blossom to become the superstars of the music industry? This was the birth of the sound of Philadelphia, music that has not been duplicated since.

Over his career of working in radio and television, Jay quickly learned that music was the lifeblood for all people;

Music takes you through a myriad of emotions and in short is the "soundtrack of your life."

Jay has had a passion to bring this music and the artists, many who are his lifelong friends in the industry, to the forefront. Also, to give a platform to these "architects of the rhythm" who won't get airplay on traditional radio stations as their formats restrict them to only playing the "oldies" by these artists but not "new" music from these talented individuals. Jones Communications of the Bahamas saw Jay's vision and assisted him in bringing it to reality! Rewind the Rhythm had its debut earlier this year in a place that feels more like home to Jay than his birthplace, that being, the Bahamas!

He has made so many friends in the Bahamas and now his dream comes true as he plays the music he loves and gives all of these artists a chance to shine once again.

Rewind the Rhythm is heard On Love 97 FM Tuesdays & Thursdays at 6pm EST & Sundays at
